"Gaming addiction or gaming disorder is hotly debated within the scientific community. The World Health Organisation has gone forward suggesting it should be an official diagnosis, but the American Psychiatric Association has not, they've suggested that we need more research. Broadly speaking, there is no evidence to suggest games themselves are addictive. Do people use them in ways that are problematic? Absolutely. But, it seems more likely that it's more a maladaptive coping strategy, so anxiety, or depression, or stress, is driving the behaviour and it's not the games themselves."
