Amerikansk senator vil forbyde 25 to Life

New Yorks senator Charles E. Schumer er på krigsstien. Han har set sig sur på det kommende Edios-spil 25 to Life, der I følge ham får Grand Theft Auto-serien til at ligne en børneudsendelse.

I 25 to Life kan man både skyde politibetjente, bruge civile som skjolde og dræbe personer fra de rivaliserende bander. Og det finder Schumer forkasteligt. Derfor vil han nu have gjort spillet forbudt i New York. Han sagde bl.a. følgende:

"There is nowhere that the value of the police force is felt more strongly than here in New York, and to sell a video game that denigrates their value is simply unacceptable, you certainly don't need a degree in criminal justice to understand that when you make sport of behavior that is dangerous and destructive you reinforce it. The last thing we need here in New York is to reinforce a destructive culture of violence and disrespect for the law."

Schumer appellerer også til både Microsoft og Sony om at annullere de udgivelsesaftaler der foreligger, således at Eidos ikke kan udgive spil længere. Han sagde bl.a. :

"Little Johnny should be learning how to read, not how to kill cops. The bottom line is that games that are aimed and marketed at kids shouldn't desensitize them to death and destruction."
