Sidste år udgivelse af Hades tog en hel del af os med bukserne nede, ja, spillet havde været ude i Early Access siden 2018 og havde fået fremragende anmeldelser, men det færdige spil var alligevel noget helt specielt, da det udkom til PC og Nintendo Switch. Der var en hel del ting som ændrede sig fra Early Access til den endelige udgivelse, og det samme gælder ændringer tidligere i processen. I et nyt interview med The Verge fortæller Creative Director og stemmeskuespiller Greg Kasavin, at en helt anden karakter som skulle have været spillets protagonist.
Den originale protagonist skulle egentlig have været Theseus, som i det færdige spil endte som en boss-karakter i stedet. Omgivelserne skulle ikke have været det evigt forandrelige Hades, men skulle have været labyrinten på Kreta. Da de begyndte at arbejde på Theseus karakter indså Supergiant Games, at der manglede myter omkring guden Hades og hans søn, og dette interesserede studiet.
"The idea was going to be like each time you play, it's kind of like a different retelling of the Theseus myth. So kind of cerebrally, he was interesting. But when we were trying to bring him to life as a protagonist, he has this risk of being kind of very generic. But as soon as we start adding specific detail to him, he just doesn't really feel like Theseus anymore." udtaler Kasavin.
"It turns out that there are not a lot of myths about Hades, apparently, because the Greeks were just afraid of him. So they didn't talk about him ... It's like, wait a minute. Hades is one of these super iconic like household name level, Greek gods. And yet there's so few stories about him and he has a son?
"We just found a better sort of angle on the protagonist, on the overall theme and on the storytelling technique as well in that one swoop. Things actually did come together pretty quickly from there."
Hades er lige nu tilgængelig på PC og Switch, hvor den sidstnævnte får en fysisk udgivelse d. 19 marts.
