Selvom det endnu ikke er annonceret, så ser det ud til at Nintendo ikke længere ejer en portion af Rare. Firmaet der på N64 var med til at sikre systemet succes, og som stadig har deres første udgivelse til gode på GameCube, er højst sandsynligt solgt. Men Nintendo sier at det ikke skaber problemer.
Nintendo’s talsmann, Yasuhiro Minagawa, sagde faktisk følgende om det påståtte salg:
"Rare is one of our subsidiaries, but its contribution to our overall sales is only about 1.5 percent now and the ratio is declining. We might consider selling Rare stakes if approached by Microsoft or others. But even if we decide to sell the company, it won't cause any changes to our business at all."
Selv sagde Minagawa-san at han ikke kenner til et evt. salg af Rare.
