I løbet af de seneste par år har Microsoft virkelig satset helt og holdent på bagudkompabilitet som en måde at skabe merværdi for forbrugeren, men denne strategi har Sony desværre ikke kopieret. Dog mener én analytiker at de langt om længe vil følge trop med deres næste konsol.
NPD-analytikeren Mat Piscatella har fulgt Sony, og branchen generelt, i mange år, og i et interview med GamingBolt fortæller han at han så sandelig forventer bagudkompabilitet i PlayStation 5.
"I'd be surprised if the PS5 were not backwards compatible with PS4 content, and Sony already has a streaming solution in market with PlayStation Now. It wouldn't surprise me if both PlayStation 5 and the next Xbox took this type of approach, although I'm sure they'd do so in slightly different ways with different messaging."
Så er spørgsmålet bare om den næste platform også vil åbne op for PlayStation 3 og endnu ældre indhold som Microsoft har med Xbox 360-spil.
