Gran Turismo 7 bruger kun Ray Tracing i genafspilninger og i garagen

Gran Turismo 7 kommer uden tvivl til at se glimrende ud, når det lanceres til marts, men der er dog én ret afgørende visuel teknologi, som udvikleren Polyphony Digital kun delvist implementerer, og det er Ray Tracing.

Nvidias lyssætningsteknologi kan, i visse tilfælde, gøre en stor forskel i forhold til grafikkens dybde og realisme, men i det kommende Gran Turismo 7 bliver der kun i replays og i spillets garage, at denne effekt benyttes, tilsyneladende fordi at billedhastigheden lider, hvis den er slået til under et løb.

Dette har instruktør Kazunori Yamauchi bekræftet i et interview med Game Watch:

"The most effective use of such technology is actually in cars. Cars are very glossy and shiny, aren't they? There aren't many products in the world that combine glass, paint, radiator grills, chrome plating, and other such things. In fact, there aren't that many products in the world that have all of those things together. The comparison is with the quiet surface of the water or the glass of a window, and there aren't that many shiny things like that. That's why cars are so well suited for ray-tracing. In the game, you can select ray-tracing in the replay, and in the stage demo and garage, you can see pictures with ray tracing applied."
