Udvikler: "Fordi Guardians of the Galaxy er singleplayer kan vi fortælle en bedre historie"

Selvom spillet allerede var blevet lækket inden E3, så var det alligevel lidt af en overraskelse at se et så drastisk anderledes Marvel-spil fra et Square Enix-studie så kort tid efter Marvel's Avengers floppede. Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy er helt og aldeles singleplayer, og udvikleren Eidos Montreal siger at det netop er derfor at de har kunne fortælle en spændende historie.

I et interview med GamesIndustry fortæller Gameplay Director Patrick Fortier, at det netop er fordi at de har fravalgt online-baseret Live Service-struktur at de kan fokusere mere på historien.

"We weren't pressured to look into trends. We just looked at the source material, and it became pretty clear that we were going to hit the core of the Guardians through the narrative. And if you're going to do narrative, then it's not necessarily super-conducive to [live service or multiplayer games]. By going single-player, we're able to focus on building a strong story. We can put ourselves in a single viewpoint that is facing the story. And knowing that you're working with a team of characters who are unique individuals and very unpredictable, it allows us to start playing with that to build a stronger narrative."

Det står i ret stærk kontrast til udtalelser fra udviklere, der siger at de godt kan fortælle storslåede historier selv i Live Service-baserede spil.
