Lige siden at Microsoft officielt annoncerede deres intention om at købe Activision Blizzard, så har det store spørgsmål været hvordan de vil håndtere eksklusivitet fremadrettet, og særligt hvordan Call of Duty-serien ville blive behandlet.
Der har været lidt blandede udtalelser allerede, men intet der helt konkret kunne bekræfte om hvorvidt fremtidige Call of Duty-spil, udover dem hvor der allerede var eksisterende aftaler de næste par år, ville komme til PlayStation også.
Men nu er der kastet yderligere lys over sagen. I et blogindlæg hos Microsoft siger dem, at de har påbegyndt "the process of seeking regulatory approval in capitals around the world for our acquisition of Activision Blizzard", og at godkendelsen faktisk vil kræve at Call of Duty-serien fortsat skal udgives på både PlayStation og sågar Switch.
"First, some commentators have asked whether we will continue to make popular content like Activision's Call of Duty available on competing platforms like Sony's PlayStation. The obvious concern is that Microsoft could make this title available exclusively on the Xbox console, undermining opportunities for Sony PlayStation users.
To be clear, Microsoft will continue to make Call of Duty and other popular Activision Blizzard titles available on PlayStation through the term of any existing agreement with Activision. And we have committed to Sony that we will also make them available on PlayStation beyond the existing agreement and into the future so that Sony fans can continue to enjoy the games they love. We are also interested in taking similar steps to support Nintendo's successful platform. We believe this is the right thing for the industry, for gamers and for our business."
Det lader altså ikke umiddelbart til at de "mest populære" spil fra Activision Blizzard vil blive eksklusive, men naturligvis specificerer de ikke hvilke, udover Call of Duty.
