Nogle indie-udviklere er lidt bekymrede for Microsofts køb af Activision

Via køb af et utal af individuelle studier, samt opkøb af både Zenimax og Activision Blizzard, så står Microsoft til at blive en gigantisk magtfaktor i spilbranchen. Hvorimod mange har rost initiativer som ID@Xbox og Xbox Game Pass, så findes der dog også studier der er lidt bekymrede for konsolideringen.

I en ny artikel fra BBC, som er baseret på samtaler med en række mindre studier, er der nogle af disse der udtrykker bekymring for udviklingen. De har blandt andet snakket med udvikleren bag Boyfriend Dungeon, der i dag er på Game Pass, Tanya Short, der har udtrykt bekymring, og siger at det kan være skidt for indie-udviklere, hvis der er færre udgivere at gå til med potentielle ideer:

"Ms Short is one of a number of indie game developers who have told BBC News they are worried about what the deal could mean for the industry.
Microsoft insists it will continue to cater for small, independent developers. But some of those developers are deeply concerned, for instance, that if the Microsoft-owned, Game Pass subscription service, increasingly becomes the only means through which many people access games, small studios could be left competing for funding and promotion via that platform.
It could be viewed as a video game version of the problem that some artists say they face on music streaming platform, Spotify."

Mere specifikt har Short blandt andet sagt:

"This Activision acquisition strikes fear in us because it makes it so much more obvious - maybe they could dominate the rest of the year and then what do we do?"
