Konsolidering og forøgelsen af interne ressourcer igennem opkøb er virkelig på mode i spilbranchen, så meget så at spilvirksomheder også er gået i gang med at styrke deres position ved ikke bare at købe udviklingsstudier, men andre teknologier og platforme. Eksempelvis købte Embracer Group for nylig brætspilsfirmaet Asmodee, og nu har Epic Games købt... Bandcamp?
Musikplatformen, der er utrolig populær blandt spirrende musikere rundt omkring i verden, vil fortsætte med at operere fuldstændig uafhængigt, og der står følgende i pressemeddelelsen:
"Bandcamp will keep operating as a standalone marketplace and music community. [...] The products and services you depend on aren't going anywhere, we'll continue to build Bandcamp around our artists-first revenue model (where artists net an average of 82% of every sale), you'll still have the same control over how you offer your music, Bandcamp Fridays will continue as planned, and the Daily will keep highlighting the diverse, amazing music on the site. However, behind the scenes we're working with Epic to expand internationally and push development forward across Bandcamp, from basics like our album pages, mobile apps, merch tools, payment system, and search and discovery features, to newer initiatives like our vinyl pressing and live streaming services."
Epic har eksperimenteret med musik før, blandt andet ved at afholde store koncerter i Fortnite, men helt præcis hvad de skal bruge Bandcamp til vides endnu ikke. De skriver eksempelvis følgende i meddelelsen, der må siges at være ret vagt:
