Obi-Wan Kenobi endte som en begrænset tv-serie på bare seks afsnit, noget som mange mente har været for lidt til at fortælle en sammehængende historie. Men på et tidspunkt var det hele også lidt mere ambitiøst sat sammen.
I et interview med The Direct fortæller en af forfatterne bag serien, Stuart Beattie, at i starten var ideen faktisk at lave en trilogi af spillefilm, der skulle fortælle historien om karakteren:
"I wrote the film that they based the show on. I spent like a year, year and a half working on it. When the decision was made not to make any more spin-off films after Solo came out, I left the project and went on to other things."I wrote the film that they based the show on,"

The second was thinking about where Kenobi ends up. And one of the most powerful and probably the most powerful moment in all of Obi-Wan's story is that moment where he sacrifices himself in A New Hope."
Beattie er fortsat meget skuffet over at de skrottede ideen om en filmtrilogi.
