Det er ikke ualmindeligt at platformindehavere som netop Sony bliver sagsøgt i tide og utide, men denne gang er selve beløbet relativt astronomisk. Denne gang er det nemlig en forbrugerrettighedsorganisation ledt an af Alex Neill, som sager for for hele £5 milliarder i England, og retter sit fokus direkte imod PlayStation Store.
Sky News kan bekræfte at søgsmålets fokus er på den kommission på 30% Sony tager fra alle købe foretaget igennem PlayStation Store, og at dette betragtes som et misbrug af deres magt. Mere specifikt mener Neill at der er tale om "unfair terms and conditions on game developers and publishers, forcing prices up for consumers."
"The game is up for Sony PlayStation. With this legal action I am standing up for the millions of UK people who have been unwittingly overcharged. We believe Sony has abused its position and ripped off its customers. Gaming is now the biggest entertainment industry in the UK, ahead of TV, video and music and many vulnerable people rely on gaming for community and connection. The actions of Sony is costing millions of people who can't afford it, particularly when we're in the midst of a cost of living crisis and the consumer purse is being squeezed like never before," siger Neill til Sky.
De £5 milliarder er et estimat på baggrund af hvor meget Sony har taget ekstra i seks år.
