For nylig afslørede Warner Bros., New Line Cinema og Embracer Group, at de har i sinde at samarbejde om at skabe nye gigantiske film baseret på Lord of the Rings-licensen. Det vides endnu ikke hvilken del af Tolkiens ekspansive univers de har tænkt sig at berøre, men stjernen i den første trilogi af film, Elijah Wood, glæder sig faktisk.
I et interview med GQ magazine udtrykker han kun glæde over at Tolkiens univers udforskes på ny:
I'm fascinated and I'm excited. I hope it's good. I'm surprised—I don't know why I'm surprised because, of course there would be more movies. Obviously at the core of that, is a desire to make a lot of money. It's not that a bunch of executives are like, "Let's make really awesome art. And, again, not begrudging anybody because, of course, it is commerce. But great art can come from commerce. So those two things are not mutually exclusive."
Det er faktisk ret kloge ord, at behovet for at lave kunst, og for at omsætte for millioner ikke altid udelukker hinanden, og den originale trilogi hædres ofte for netop at have afbalanceret de to ting.
Hvad tror du de kommende film fokuserer på? Wood selv håber bare på at passionen forbliver intakt.
