Xbox' multiplatformstrategi er åbenbart formet af "Gen Z-vaner"

Phil Spencer siger at den nye generation af gamere vil spille "wherever they want".

Selvom at det ikke endte med at store, centrale Xbox IP'er lander på PlayStation, så har Microsoft sat gang i et større initiativ, der begynder med at Sea of Thieves, Grounded, Pentiment og Hi-Fi Rush udkommer på PlayStation, og alt tyder på at dette netop bare er starten.

Så hvorfor går Microsoft delvist multiplatform? Spørger du Phil Spencer, så er det fordi at den nye generation af gamere simpelthen ikke kan lide eksklusivitet - de vil spille når de har lyst på de devices de ejer. I et interview med Polygon siger han dette:

It can cost $300 million to build a video game, and [the case for] exclusivity gets pressured as the cost of the game goes up. This notion that Xbox can only be this one device that plugs into a television isn't something we see in the Gen Z research. Because nothing else is like that for them. Some of them will have an iPhone, some will have an Android, but all the games and everything is the same. I can still get to TikTok on both of them, at least for now. All of their stuff is available wherever they want. So for Xbox, our brand pivot — as we attract and maintain relevance with a younger audience — is 'Xbox is a place where I can find the great games I want to.'"

Det lader til at være et forsøg på at appellere bredere, men som sagt kan det have konsekvenser, blandt andet for Xbox-konsolsalget.
