Filmsiden Empire skriver, at Deus Ex-filmen har fundet sig en instruktør i form af Scott Derrickson (The Day the Earth Stood Still, the Exorcism of Emily Rose). Han skal både instruere og skrive manuskriptet, sidstnævnte i samarbejde med C Robert Cargill (de to havde et lignende samarbejde om filmen Sinister).
Derrickson har fine ord om Deus Ex:
