A press release from the U.S Department of War states that a Google Gemini AI model called GenAi.mil will see major use, thus marking the fist use of generative AI across Pentagon IT systems.
The press release includes sentences like
"This past July, President Donald Trump instituted a mandate to achieve an unprecedented level of AI technological superiority. The War Department is delivering on this mandate, ensuring it is not just ink on paper."
and is followed by high praise by Secretary of War, Pete Hegseth on X

The purpose is research and analysis of especially video and images.
Google has added in their own statement that no Defense Department data will be used in training AI models available to the public.
Despite requests from press, no answer has been given on to what new options/abilities/capabilities staff at Pentagon now have available, as this in reality is not the first stint with AI for the Department of War, as both XAI, Scale AI, Anthropic and OpenAI have active contracts according to public record.
But we will be looking forward to, according to the press release, the future that "ushers in an AI-driven culture change".
While some business analytics see this as a major win for Google, it is important to point out that the press release does include a number of statements that seem more political than factual such as "The launch of GenAI.mil stands as a testament to American ingenuity" and "Their achievement directly embodies the Department's core tenets of reviving the warrior ethos".
