Fra 2. april vil Sony sætte priserne på PlayStation 5 konsoller og PlayStation Portal op med op til 100 dollars på verdensplan. Det betyder, at en PlayStation 5 Pro nu vil ligge på hidsige 900 dollars. Analytiker Piers Harding-Rolls fra Ampere Analysis siger, at vi nok godt kan forvente, at Nintendo og Microsoft vil foretage lignede prisjusteringer.
I en reaktion på Sonys prisstigning, siger han til Eurogamer:
The supply chain shock of the elongated increase in memory and storage prices - both essential for console hardware - means that there is some inevitability to the PlayStation hardware price increases announced by Sony. It is likely that Sony had price protections for its components for a set period, and this may well have come to an end.
With no sign of prices easing largely due to demand for AI infrastructure, Sony will have made the move to protect its slim hardware margins. It wouldn't be a surprise if Microsoft and Nintendo followed suit in the not-too-distant future.

Flere analytikere er begyndt at blive bekymret for, at gaming i fremtiden kun vil være forbeholdt den mere velhavende del af befolkningen, da den del af befolkningen, som tjener mindst ikke længere, vil have råd til underholdningsprodukter med disse prismærker. I USA forudser analytikere, at også mellemindkomst-familier begynder at vælge disse produkter fra, mens de ser sig om efter billigere gaming-muligheder.
