Den private World of Warcraft-server Nostalrius blev lukket ned tilbage i april måned, efter at Blizzard truede Nostalrius-holdet med retssag. Kort tid efter udtalte både Blizzard og holdet, at der var en dialog igang mellem de to, men meget lidt er sket siden da.
Nu er holdet blevet træt af at vente på Blizzard, og har nu udgivet al kildekode samt hjælpeværktøjer til folk, der måtte ønske at smide deres egen klassiske server op. Desuden sætter holdet selv en privat server op igen, der vil blive en tro kopi af Nostalrius, blot med et nyt navn.
En anden World of Warcraft-privat server kaldet Project Elysium, har fået fingrene i dette værktøj først fra Nostalrius, og alle karakterer på deres servere er blevet frosset, indtil systemet er trådt i kraft.
Nostalrius-administratoren Viper skriver på serverens forum:
"The source code will be first given to an existing Legacy project which we believe to be the most in line with our core values, named Elysium. This server shares the volunteer spirit and passion for the game we had. Furthermore, an important part of Nostalrius volunteers are already working there, some under different names. We wish them all the best, and hope that they will become a new home for the reunited Vanilla community."
"We will continue collaborating closely with them. This collaboration could include additional 'things' to share with them if necessary to achieve this goal. In exchange, this server promised to not receive any profit from this activity. They will also have to create the documentation required to install, understand and use the work we did."
Blizzard har ikke valgt at kommentere på Nostalrius ønske om en genåbning af serveren samt deling af kildekoden.
