I Splatoon kunne du ikke vælge, hvilke bane du ville spille. Du skulle spille de samme to bane i fire timer indtil der var rotation.
Dette ændrer sig en smule i fortsættelsen. Splatoon 2 producer Hisashi Nogami fortalte Edge, at ventetiden mellem rotationerne denne gang vil være reduceret til kun to timer.
"We feel that part of the gameplay is actually selecting which weapons would be best for that combination of two maps. In Splatoon 2, the maps rotate every two hours, so it'll be a much faster cycle than the previous game."
