Godt nok er debatten omkring aggressive mikrotransaktioner ikke ny, men man må sige at EA er gået hen og er blevet centrum for den på grund af udgivelsen af både Need for Speed Payback og Star Wars Battlefront II, der begge bruger ret insisterende taktikker. Til gengæld har fans verden over reageret meget stærkt på disse initiativer, men det lader ikke til at have rystet EA's tro på mikrotransaktioner som koncept.
I en længere tale ved UBS Global Technology Conference (opsamlet af GamesIndustry) fortæller EA CFO Blake Jorgensen, at mikrotransaktioner faktisk er med til at gøre firmaet mere stabilt.
"Battlefield 4 is often the fourth, fifth or sixth most played game in any given day. Oftentimes, it's consistently in the Top Ten - and it's a game that's four years old.
"If we had a live service on that, and we could keep people engaged, give them even more to play them, we would also be able to try and monetize them over time. That's a huge opportunity, to continue to build the live-service piece of our business."
"For us, trying to move the business to more live services, grow our subscription part of the business, is trying to build a much more steady business. I'm very comfortable with a steady growth rate, and with digital that continues to become a bigger part of our business and continues to expand the profitability of the business."
