Der var et tidspunkt lidt tidligere på året hvor det lod til at Loot Box-skandalen var gået lidt i sig selv, men nu er der fuld blus på efter en række politiske anparter, deriblandt handels- og hasardspilskommissioner har afsløret at de har i sinde at videre undersøge Loot Boxes som et potentielt område der skal reguleres. Faktisk er USA nu blandt disse.
Polygon kan bekræfte at New Hampshire-senator Maggie Hassan har talt med den amerikanske Federal Trade Commission om Loot Boxes i en høring.
"We discussed loot boxes, which allow in-game purchases with real currency for surprise winnings, and most of you agreed that this is an area that could use additional oversight by the FTC. Loot boxes are now endemic in the video game industry and are present in everything from casual smart phone games to the newest high-budget video game releases."
Hassan noterede desuden at bestemte rapporter, deriblandt en i England, har sammenkoblet hasardspil med Loot Boxes, og at FTC bør tage dette ganske seriøst.
"Given the seriousness of this issue, I think it is in fact time for the FTC to investigate these mechanisms to ensure that children are being adequately protected and to educate parents about potential addiction or other negative impacts of these games."
Efterfølgende sagde kommissionens Chairman, Joe Simons, ja til at FTC skal undersøge disse mekanismer i spil, og potentielt søge lovgivning på området.
