I løbet af det sidste års tid er det stødt gået ned ad bakke for Electronic Arts, der udgav Star Wars Battlefront II, vil aktivt modsætte sig Loot Box-lovgivning i Holland og Belgien, har lukket Visceral Games og aflyst to Star Wars-spil og forvandlet Command & Conquer til et free-to-play mobilspil. Alt dette har investorer og analytikere naturligvis lagt mærke til, så nu nedgraderes deres aktieværdi.
Jeffries-analytikeren Timothy O'Shea har fortalt CNBC, at takket være de førnævnte skandaler, samt skuffende præstationer på blandt andet Battlefield V og Mass Effect: Andromeda, så nedgraderer han nu aktieværdien. Samtidig mener han at udgiveren har masser at bevise overfor de kritiske forbrugere.
"Non-sports games is precisely the area where EA has the most to prove. Excluding sports games, EA has launched a string of misses."
EA satser stadig hårdt på vækst fra Ultimate Team-delene af deres sportspil, men netop på grund af Battlefront II mener O'Shea heller ikke at dette er sikker profit længere.
"When EA brought loot boxes to Star Wars Battlefront 2, the fan backlash was swift and severe. Battlefront 2 dramatically underperformed its original estimates, and bowing to pressure EA capitulated to gamers by removing loot boxes from the game. This was a first important sign that Ultimate Team growth would begin to stall."
