For nylig forsøgte EA at omdøbe begrebet Loot Boxes til "Surprise Mechanics", da de blev udfordret af det engelske parlament. Mere specifikt sagde EA's Kerry Hopkins følgende som svar til et spørgsmål fra en skotsk parlamentariker:
"If you go to a store that sells a lot of toys, and you do a search for surprise toys, you will find that this is something that people enjoy. People enjoy surprises. We do think the way we have implemented these kind of mechanics in FIFA Ultimate team and our packs, is actually quite ethical and quite fun and enjoyable to people."
Dette har skabt røre, endnu en gang, i hele branchen, og det lader til at andre udgivere også har fået nok af EA's endeløse kontroverser. SEGA, der allerede uddelte hån over Star Wars Battlefront II-fadæsen via det falske spil "Sonic Horses" fyldt med Loot Boxes, er nu på banen igen.
De har fulgt op Horses-vittigheden far november 2017 med en opfølgende besked via Twitter, hvor der står:
