For nylig udgav organisationen TaxWatch i England en rapport, hvor de igen har undersøgt det såkaldte VGTR-program i landet, der er designet til at hjælpe små startup-virksomheder i spilbranchen med lidt økonomisk pusterum. Det fremgår dog at en fjerdel af samtlige af de midler som programmet udgav i 2019 gik til én virksomhed, Rockstar, der måske ikke direkte bryder loven, men udnytter smuthuller i VGTR til at undrage sig beskatning.
Rockstar har nu svaret på rapportens resultater via VG247, hvor de forsvarer sig med at de har skabt masser af jobs, netop fordi de har kunne udnytte VGTR til at undrage sig beskatning.
"The UK's program to support the growth of a broad range of creative industries through tax relief is a proven success. The program has directly resulted in Rockstar Games significantly increasing its investment in the UK, creating well over 1,000 highly skilled and long term jobs across London, Lincoln, Yorkshire and Scotland.
"This investment and the success of British video games supported by the program not only significantly contributes to the economy, and to UK tax receipts, but also helps solidify the UK's position at the forefront of video game development well into the future."
Det engelske parlament har endnu ikke svaret på rapporten, men TaxWatch mener at det ikke er meningen at gigantiske virksomheder der på egen hånd tjener millioner, skal kunne udnytte VGTR.
