I disse dage får vi flere og flere informationer om både Sony og Microsofts nye konsoller. Og nu har Microsoft løftet sløret for endnu en feature hos deres Xbox Series X.
I en ny rapport fra Digital Foundry afslørede Microsoft, at den nye Xbox tilsyneladende kan tilføje HDR på bagudkompatible spil, der faktisk ikke en gang understøtter HDR. Det kan lade sig gøre via en algoritme fra HDR-teknologien, som blandt andet indebærer, at man booster billedets maksimale lysstyrke til op mod 1000 nits, hvilket kan kreere HDR. Og Microsofts Software-ingeniør Claude Marais mener, at denne funktion i teorien kan appliceres på alle spil - selv spil, der er over 20 år gamle:
"It can be applied to all games theoretically, technically, I guess we're still working through user experiences and things like that but this is a technical demo. So this [Halo 5] is four years old, right, so let's go to the extreme and jump to a game that is 19, 20 years old right now - and that is Fusion Frenzy. Back then there's nothing known about HDR, no-one knew about HDR things. Games just used 8-bit back buffers."
Det lyder ganske imponerende, må man sige.
