Det kom som en overraskelse for mange, da en tredjepartsudgiver som Bethesda pludselig afslørede under PS5-begivenheden, at spil som Deathloop og Ghostwire Tokyo faktisk bliver eksklusivt tilgængelige på PlayStation 5 for en stund. Dog lader dette til at være en af Sonys primære strategier her.
For ifølge én insider, nemlig tidligere Game Informer-redaktør Imran Khan, så har Sony nærmet sig samtlige store udgivere, og forhandlet om eksklusive spilaftaler, enten i forhold til indhold, som Spider-Man i Marvel's Avengers, eller eksklusivitet til selve konsollen.
På ResetEra siger han følgende:
"There isn't a major third party out there Sony failed to approach asking what kind of deals they could work out. Some had content, some had games, some had content and games. It is not like Microsoft was not willing to offer, they just didn't want to pay the asking price, because Sony approached with pretty high numbers in the first place. That "PlayStation Advantage" branding and "Console Exclusive" wording are both going to get a lot of use in the next few years."
