Phil Spencer har haft en lang, vild karriere i spilbranchen, og har jo ikke bare siddet som overhovedet for Xbox, som nu, men flere steder i organisationen. Nu kigger han tilbage på sin karriere, og der er ikke overraskende nogle fejltrin han gerne vil belyse.
I et dybdegående interview ved PAX West fortæller han blandt andet at han valgte ikke at give grønt lys til Bungies Destiny, der dengang var under Microsoft, fordi han "ikke troede det ville fungere".
Han fortæller også at blandt andet Guitar Hero kunne have været eksklusivt til Xbox:
"An interesting one is when this team came down to Redmond and Alex Rigopulos, he pitches a game where they're actually going to make plastic guitars, and they're going to plug into consoles, and then they're going to sell tracks where you're going to play Simon on this guitar and I'm like, really? Do we really think that's going to work? I hear that turned into a pretty good game."
Hele interviewet er ret fascinerende, og Spencer er ret ydmyg også. Faktisk lægger han slet ikke fingre imellem:
"I've made some of the worst game-choice decisions. I try to look forward and be positive about the things that we are doing."
