Ready at Dawn forsøgte at pitche en efterfølger til The Order: 1886

Angiveligt var Sony ikke så glade for de lavere end forventede anmeldelser.

The Order: 1886 ankom tilbage i 2015 eksklusivt på PlayStation 4, og var dengang stort set uden sidestykke på den grafiske front, men takket være begrænset interaktivitet, ensformigt gameplay og en lidt for kort længde fik spillet kritik, og opnåede ikke samme kritiske status som andre eksklusiver fra samme æra.

Og derfor kom der aldrig en efterfølger, Ready at Dawn samarbejdede ikke med Sony igen og i dag er studiet lukket. Det reflekterer medstifter Andrea Pessino over i et interview med MinnMax, og han mener at Sony havde tiltro til en højere kritisk konsensus, og derfor blev de skuffede over den endelige lancering:

"I don't think it was the sales, I think it was the critical reception, that's the thing. Sony is a very proud group and rightfully so, and the critical reception, if it had even been just in the 70s, we would have had the sequel, I'm convinced. Just a few points more and it would have been OK. One of the problems is that so much was cut," Pessino said. "A lot of the more subtle narrative parts were lost because so much was chopped away and things that were supposed to be interactive became a movie. We needed another year, that's the reality. We needed at least one more year, we didn't get it, so we were like, cut, cut, cut."

Pessino afslører også at de faktisk pitchede en ide til en direkte efterfølger, men denne afviste Sony så selvom Ready at Dawn følte at de kunne have spillet klar i 2018 med en multiplayer suite også.
