Sauber F1 Team partners with Veloce for esports team

They'll be training, competing, and streaming from Veloce's London base.

The Alfa Romeo Sauber F1 Team has just revealed that they're moving into the world of competitive gaming by establishing their very own esports team to "compete across multiple racing platforms and championships," partnering with organisation Veloce Esports to manage the new roster.

If you're wondering, this team will compete in the F1 Esports Series, which has its Pro-Draft starting this week in the UK with a live show in London next Monday. The goal of this roster is to "target championship success and global engagement across a number of online gaming tournaments," and they'll train, compete, and stream with Veloce at their HQ in London, competing in racing titles as well as Fortnite.

Alfa Romeo Sauber's eSports team will train, compete and live stream in partnership with Veloce, whose HQ is in Central London. Gamers will compete on the leading racing titles, as well as the world's highest grossing game, Fortnite.

Frédéric Vasseur, CEO and Team Principal at Alfa Romeo Sauber's F1 Team, said: "Esports is a great opportunity that opens up the F1 world to a wider target audience and young generation, who are the future of our sport. The esports drivers will benefit from our expertise in racing. Our team has a long tradition in scouting and growing young talent so this new challenge is a perfect fit for the Alfa Romeo Sauber F1 Team."

Rupert Svendsen-Cook, Business Director at Veloce, added: "We're proud to partner with such an iconic team as the Alfa Romeo Sauber F1 team. The whole motor racing world is waking up to esports and the multi-dimensional opportunities that it presents - it's incredibly exciting times for us in this space."

This is far from the first time racing and F1 has moved into the space, as we recently got word that McLaren is launching another esports competition called Shadow Project, following on from the success of World's Fastest Gamer last year.
