Vi har hørt lidt skiftende udmeldinger fra Sony hvad angår deres position omkring den nuværende konsolcyklus, og præcis hvornår vi skal forvente ny hardware. Flere gange har Sony fortalt os at konsollen har lang tid endnu, og at denne cyklus kan strække sig langt, men i dag har tonen fået en anden lyd.
I nat har Sony afholdt deres Investor Relations Day, og ifølge SiliconEra (udgivet i oversat form af Takashi Mochizuki fra Wall Street Journal på Twitter) har Sony-chefen John Tsuyoshi Kodera fortalt, at PlayStation 4-konsollen nærmer sig slutningen på sin levetid.
"PS4 is entering final phase of its life cycle, which would have negative impact to the unit, but recurring revenue via membership services etc should cushion some of that."
Desuden har Kodera afsløret, at VR-branchen ikke vokset helt lige så meget som forventet.
PSVR growing, but industry's growth is below market expectations. PS Vue is facing harder-than-expected competitions. Vue and PSVR would aim for further growth with realistic outlook.
